For immigration and registration, the Munipal Register, the Foreign Police, the Tax Office and the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) are connected under the GBA: Gemeentelijke basisadministratie persoonsgegevens. You are obliged to have yourself registrated with the GBA when you reside in Holland at least for four months. The registration proves your residence within a municipality and gives you automatically access to related social and financial institutions.

NB Your family has to appear in person on the first application

Take with you to the GBA:

  • passport
  • rental contract
  • employment contract
  • birth and marriage certificates of all family members

Costs Before locating

  • MVV application
  • EUR 50,- (An Authorisation visa for Temporary Stay)
  • Short-stay visa
  • EUR 25/30,-

After this

  • Residence permit/extension (valid for up to 5 years)
    EU residents, EUR 28,-

All other countries

  • EUR 430,- (adults and children 12+)
  • EUR 285,- (children under 12)

Permanent residence permit: EUR 890,- for everyone

A foreign driver`s licence can be exchanged for a Dutch one when the bearer can prove that he lived or worked in the foreign country for at least six months.
